Samsung will unveil a thinner version of its pioneering folding smartphone in a launch process that is likely to take place next month, as it fights its Chinese competitors to present the most devices to the market.
The foldable phones, which had one screen, could be folded in half, in their concentration when Samsung was first I launched such a device in 2019. But the Chinese players, especially Sharaf and Oppo, have since released with bleak and lighter templates than Samsung.
Why is it a slim dark important?
“With folds, thinness became more important than ever because people are not ready to accept the settlement of a thicker and heavier phone to obtain the property that the foldable phone can provide,” Ben Wood, CCS Insight Senior Analyst, told CNBC on Thursday.
Honor, Oppo and other Chinese players used their high designs to distinguish between themselves from Samsung.
Let’s take a look at the comparison: Another folding from Samsung from 2024Galaxy Z Fold6, 12.1 mm thick ~ (0.48 inches) when folding and weighing 239 grams (8.43 ounces). Oppo’s Find N5It was released earlier this year, with a thickness of 8.93 millimeters when closed and weighs 229 grams. Honor Magic v3It was launched last year, 9.2 millimeters when it folds and weighs 226 grams.
“Samsung needs an escalation,” Wood said.
This is what the South Korean technology giant plans to do in its upcoming launch, which is likely to happen next month.
“The latest Galaxy Z series is the thinner, lighter and most sophisticated foldable – made with precisely and designed to continue,” Samsung said in a preview blog on the phone earlier this month.
But the competition does not give up. Honor plans to launch on July 2 in China for the latest folding phone, The Magic V5.
Wood said: “The interesting thing for Samsung, if they can approach the thinness achieved by honor, it will be an important step from the predecessor, then this will be a concrete step in design,” Wood said.
Despite these developments by folds, the device market was not as exciting as many had hoped.
CCS Insight said that Foldables will only represent 2 % of the total smart phone market this year. The phones may be insomnia in one way to process the slow market, but consumer preferences also need to change.
“There is a chance to deliver much thinner folds, which resemble the most traditional unilateral phone, and it will provide an opportunity to convert consumer heads and take them to reconsider the idea of a foldable device,” Wood said.
“However, I warn that its folds remain a problem because consumers are struggling in many cases to find out why they need a foldable device.”
Although the market is still small for foes compared to traditional smartphones, famous analyst Ming Che Ko of TF International Securities on Wednesday He said Apple- which was significantly absent from this group-plans- To make iPhone foldable starting next year.
