‘Safety is important’: Kiren Rijiju shares video of tourists stranded in frozen lake in Arunachal Pradesh

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju shared a video of a group of tourists stranded in the Sila Pass in Arunachal Pradesh. According to the video shared by Rijiju, the tourists fell into extremely cold water after the ice cracked in a frozen lake.

“At Sila Pass in Arunachal Pradesh,” Rijiju said in a 51-second video on X. “My advice to tourists: Walk on frozen lakes with experienced people, drive carefully on slippery snowy roads and be careful of avalanches.” Temperatures It’s freezing cold so dress warm and stay safe.

The sudden collapse caused panic, but a major mishap was averted due to quick action by passers-by. Armed with bamboo sticks, they succeeded in rescuing the tourists.

The video went viral on social media, with netizens urging tourists to keep safety as a top priority. One user said: “Over enthusiasm and lack of knowledge of the local terrain is often fatal. They were lucky!”

“Please provide a warning sign which should be there for people’s safety (sic),” another user said. Another user wrote: “The mad, unregulated rush of tourists in pristine countries is a disaster of its own making. It will affect people and the nature of the mountains. A strict policy and organized numbers are required.”

Some users also shared their experiences on Sela Pass and elsewhere.

“My personal experience from this place…once people go there they become more adventurous and try to go as far as possible like competition…two people fell into the water even when we visited last year.” one user commented.

“Sir, this actually happened to me in Ladakh at the junction of the Indus and the Zanskar. It was around Christmas time and the river had frozen over. I started walking on it and then the ice broke and I dived into the freezing water! Fortunately, it got me out,” another user wrote. My father and brother are safe.”
