Scotti Chefler admitted that he found it “really strange” that the previous United States teams had gone into Ryder’s cups without playing golf for several weeks.
In changing a protocol from previous years, Sheffler and nine of his colleagues in the 11th USA team on the weekend of the proton championship played with the number 1 winter in California.
Before the last Rider Cup, when Europe won a dominant victory in Rome in 2023, only two members of this American team – Justin Thomas and Max Huma – played at the final PGA Tour before the famous team competition.
Chefler believes that changing the approach, which was encouraged by Captain Kejan Bradley, put the host side in a stronger position to restore the cup when the Rider Cup is held in New York from 26 to 28 September, Live on Sky Sports.
“When I look at my experience from the past few team events, it is strange to get a long break after the season ended to one of our biggest events either the President Cup or the Rider Cup.”
“This is huge for us as Americans and something that we are proud of. I find it really strange that there are four or five weeks between the end of our season and a huge team happened.
So, keeping sharp is always important to me, but it is also important to rest at the end of each season. I mean, playing the golf game in the tournament here for a whole year, competition, and it takes much physically and mentally.
“Therefore, there is a balance between comfort and preparation for the team’s events, but going to the Rider Cup this felt, in order to prepare us, this was something that we need to do – to come here and play this week.
“I think we are all feel very prepared to go to Bithabag and excited to start this week.”
Team Europe Style “Bethpage Scouting Trip”
This is partly due to the DP World Table, as European players may tend to find it easy to compete in weeks that reach the Ryder Cup.
This time, all the 12 -year -old Luke Donald team played in the BMW PGA championship in Winterth, which was running at the same time as the PROCORE championship.
Donald and its employees went directly to New York after the tournament on Sunday night on their own exploratory trip at Bethpage Black, which Shifler revealed that the American team had also thought about it.
“It was something that we discussed at the beginning of the year. We have put forward the idea of taking a scout trip to Bethpage or coming here and playing this event,” she said.
“We felt it would be a little more valuable to make all players together here this week to play the golf game for the championships in order to stay in good condition.
“For me, there is a difference between training and playing at home and moving to the gun in the championship.
“Especially entering a team event where you play formats that you were not fully accustomed to, even though it plays in Sunday’s match and play the best ball and alternative shot. It is a little different format than we are used to, so I think it is more important to remain sharp in a tournament like this.”
Bradley was present in California, regardless of Zander Shafel, who recently became a father, was able to get all his players – including Praison Deschambo – before the tournament for dinner.
“It was definitely a good preparation,” she added. “It was good to gather all the players. We enjoyed some fun at the beginning of the week, and we played our training rounds together.
“Once the tournament begins, the work is largely as usual for us, but in general it was a great week. We can all stick and remain sharp.”
