Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that the Russian forces had acquired nearly 5,000 square kilometers (1930 square miles) of Ukrainian lands this year, claiming that Moscow had retained a “full strategic initiative” in the battlefield. The gains represent about 1 % of the land area in Ukraine, which reaches the total Russian control of approximately 20 %.
