Rory McIlroy returns to action for the first time since Team Europe’s historic Ryder Cup success in the inaugural DP World India Championship this week, live on Sky Sports.
McIlroy headlines a strong line-up for the new event, jointly sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), three weeks after playing a key role in Europe’s impressive 15-13 win over Team USA at Bethpage Black.
The world number two contributed 3.5 points for Europe in their successful title defence, the first away win for either side since 2012, with McIlroy now joined for India by three of his Ryder Cup teammates and victorious captain Luke Donald.
Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland and Shane Lowry also feature, while Donald joins Tony Jacklin as the only European captain in history to win two consecutive Ryder Cups.

Who else is playing?
McIlroy is one of four players in the top 15 in the world, with a former Open champion Brian Harman And two-time PGA Tour winner Ben Griffin – Both are part of Team USA’s Ryder Cup team – also on the field.
American colleague Michael Kim Having won the DP World Tour title in France last month, with two former European Ryder Cup players Nicola Colsaerts, Rafa Cabrera Bello, Ross Fisher, Andy Sullivan and Bernd Weisberger are also involved.
What’s at stake for McIlroy?
A dramatic playoff victory at the Amgen Irish Open has boosted his hopes of a seventh DP World Tour Order of Merit and third straight, which would leave him one away from Colin Montgomery’s numbers.
He has already racked up four world class victories during a memorable 2025, including major glory at the Masters to complete a career Grand Slam, as the Northern Irishman tops the Race to Dubai standings once again.
McIlroy’s lead was cut to just 393 points after Marco Ping won the Spanish Open on Sunday, but this week’s event offers an opportunity to regain a greater advantage for next month’s DP World Tour qualifiers.
Where is it hosted?
The Lodhi Course at the historic Delhi Golf Club is hosting this week’s event, the first time it has been used on the DP World Tour since the 2016 Hero Indian Open.
The course has been redesigned and used for several Asian Tour events since then, with the par-72 being a garden-style golf course described as having “dense vegetation bordering every hole”.
What is the prize money offered??
The tournament has a total value of $4 million (£3.01 million) – the largest prize money ever offered for a DP World Tour event in India.
The distribution of individual prizes has not yet been confirmed, while the winner will receive 835 Race to Dubai rating points.
The champion also receives the Lotus Trophy, made of crystal and bearing two symbols of India – the Taj Mahal and the lotus flower – within its design.
Why is this week also important?
The DP World India Championship is the penultimate event of the ‘Back 9’ schedule on the DP World Tour, making it one of the two tournaments remaining for players to either extend their season or secure their playing privileges for next year.
Only the top 110 in the Race to Dubai standings after next week’s Genesis Championship in South Korea will be guaranteed to retain their DP World Tour card for another year, while the top 70 in the standings after the two events will qualify for the season’s final qualifiers.
The top 70 players from that stage will take part in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship from November 6-9, before the top 50 players available – after that week – qualify for the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai from November 13-16.
