India national cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has spoken out about the controversial dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal in the second innings of the fourth Test against the Australia national cricket team. He said they were unfortunate since the last few series and fell on the wrong side.
In what was a massive turning point in the course of the fourth match, Yashavi Jaiswal was killed off by a controversial dismissal against Pat Cummins. It arguably changed the outcome of the match as the Australia national cricket team won the match by a massive margin of 184 runs.
Yashasvi Jaiswal gets a controversial dismissal against Pat Cummins at the MCG
It was during Pat Cummins’ bowling when the Australia national cricket team captain bowled a short ball around leg. Yashasvi Jaiswal tried to play a pull shot but couldn’t catch it and ended up passing it to Alex Carey, who jumped forward and took it two inches above the ground.
The on-field umpire didn’t lift a finger and, with great optimism, Pat Cummins went to DRS. As replays showed, there appeared to be a clear deflection, and the third official was convinced there was a deflection after the ball went over his gloves. But what was shocking was seeing Sneko.
There was no spike from Sneko, but the third umpire didn’t trust that as he went with the visual evidence and overturned the decision, and the batsman had to go a long way down the pavilion. But he was upset by the call and was seen discussing with the referee.
I don’t know what to make of it because the technology didn’t show anything – Rohit Sharma on Yashavi Jaiswal’s sacking
Rohit Sharma was asked about the dismissal but the Indian national cricket team captain did not have a direct answer to the same. He said that although Yashasvi Jaiswal touched the ball, he was not sure how the referees wanted to use the technology. Speaking to reporters, he said:
“Look, I don’t know what to make of that because the technology didn’t show anything. To the naked eye, it looked like he touched something. I don’t know how the referees want to use the technology, but in all fairness, he touched the ball, but again, it’s about the technology, which “We all know it’s not 100%.”
It’s just that we don’t often fall on the wrong side of it – Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma also pointed out that they have been unfortunate since the last few series as most of the dismissals have gone against them. He explained:
“Like I said, we don’t want to look too much into this. It’s just that, more often than not, we get on the wrong side of it. It’s been happening since India. I think we’ve been a little unfortunate.”
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who played an innings of 82 runs in the first innings, played a knock of 84 runs in the second innings as well. He hit 208 balls in the second innings and also slammed 8 boundaries in his innings. After his wicket, India lost quick wickets and lost the match.
