Roach plans to fight Shakur Stevenson after Pitbull Crews wins

Lamont Roach says so after He takes on interim WBC lightweight champion Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz on December 6th, and wants to fight Shakur Stevenson at 140 or, better yet, 135.

Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) is confident he will defeat Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Lamont towered over the 5’4 Cruz during Wednesday’s press conference, looking like a legitimate 140-pounder rather than a fighter holding the WBA super featherweight title. Roach is up from 135 since his last fight against Gervonta Davis on March 1.

It is still inhabited by tanks

Roach looked like a A chronically bitter person During Wednesday’s opening press conference, he talked about his recent fight with Tank Davis instead of focusing on his bout against “Pitbull” Crews on December 6th.

The way Roach talked about tank combat and the faraway look in his eyes, he resembled someone with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTED). They can’t let go, and are still trying to understand what happened to them. Roach seems stuck on this particular event.

Lamont spent three or four minutes talking about Gervonta instead of Cruz. I watched the fight tonight to see why he was so upset by the outcome.

After rewatching the fight, I think Tank Davis is the winner. He hit the cleanest and hardest shots along the way. Roach would constantly move forward, occasionally landing punches with no force behind him, then using Shakur’s move to take three steps back when attacking him. There was nothing about Roach’s performance that interested him. The only thing that worked for him was his size. After rehydrating, he had a size advantage over Davis.

Cruz is seen as a stepping stone

Roach is treating his fight with Crews as if he already has victory in his pocket, and is already planning his next bout.

Roach’s next step

“If he did, I would love to fight him at 140,” Roach said of his desire to fight Shakur Stevenson after his fight against Teofimo Lopez. “I think this is a fight that happens at 135.” “It all depends on what is available after I win this fight (Cruz).

Shakur has already said he is interested in fighting Roach following his WBO title win against light welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez in early 2026.

Roach is not ranked at 135, so it looks like Stevenson will continue to have his WBC lightweight title vacated. But it’s understandable, because Shakur’s No. 1 contender for the WBC belt is Andy Cruz, a man who can beat him and Roach. He doesn’t rush into a fight the way Shakur and Roach do.
