With the popularity of the pocket camera, Ricoh announced GR IV, an updated version of the excellent GR III, small (very old). It is a fixed camera that can easily fit with the pocket, but inside it is a large APS-C image sensor much larger than you can get on the phone. Large photo sensors usually mean better image compared to smaller sensors.

I really liked Gr III and chose it as The best point and exhaustion Travel camera. The photos I took were better, especially in low light, from most other small cameras that you tested. However, I felt completely dated. It seems that the new GR IV, at least on paper, is improving in many of the most common aspects of GR III, but keeps the vast majority of the camera as it is. This is generally good.

A large sensor, a small camera

  • Pictures of 25.7 MP (6,192 x 4128)
  • 18.3mm f/2.8 lens (28 mm in 35 mm equivalent)
  • 1080p/60 videos
  • 5 Axis Installing Image
  • Starting faster compared to previous GR cameras (alleged 0.6 seconds)
  • Integrated nd (2 stop)
  • An internal storage of 53 GB (also MicroSD)
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3

It transmits the benefits of GR III and its IIV to GR IV: it’s a very small camera with a large image sensor. The body is 4.3 in 2.4 x 1.3 inches, which is almost the same as the smartphone, thicker but shorter. It should be easily fit in most pockets. IV a little smaller than GR III.

Again, there is a new APS-C photo sensor, although the same size used in GR III and in the same accuracy. Rico says it has a “higher allergy and noise reduction” compared to the sensor at GR III. It was great to see a high -resolution sensor, allowing more details when limiting an image, bearing in mind that GR IV has a fixed and wide -angle lens.

This lens is a completely new design, with a length of 18.3 mm (equivalent to 28 mm). This matches GR III, as well as F2.8 slot. This is in the narrow end what is usually considered a wide -angle lens, but it is similar to the field of seeing the main cameras on most smartphones. Rico says the glass lens elements allow “sharpness to the edge to the edge.”

GR IV contains a reduction of 5 axes vibration, an altitude of 3 axes on GR III, to help reduce non -dilution during the longest shutter speeds. This provides up to six installation stations. This, in addition to the high sensitivity of the image sensor, can mean that GR IV works well in low light.

Besides the launch of the GR IV, Ricoh announced several accessories, most notably a compressed flash connected to the hot shoe at the top of the camera. After years of cameras, you try to reduce the need for flashes, The return of reactionary digital cameras And their beauty brings them back. In addition, there will be some cosmetic alternatives, including the metal hot shoe cover, as well as a wrist belt (photographed in the upper image) and the lens adapter to suit a wide GW-4 conversion lens available for GR III.

Should you wait for GR IV?

On paper, GR IV updates look somewhat moderate. The same total design, the same accuracy, the same focal dimension. However, there is definitely aspect of “if not broken, do not fix it.” GR III made great, as he created high -quality images in a pocket -sized camera. It is often said that the best camera is your camera, and it was very easy to get GR III with you.

The new lens and photo sensor and stability can be solid promotions. I will not know until I test GR IV (most likely next month when it is launched). I am a little disappointed, as it is not higher. This is not a huge deal, but I was using it Fixed camera for several months now As the main camera, you are able to get 40 -megapixel photos within reach. Then again, if you are in a position you want to pick up something at a distance, I usually use Telephoto on my country Pixel 9 Pro.

If you are interested in a GR camera, I recommend waiting for a few weeks if you can. Either GR IV is a promotion worthy of it, or it will just be a simple improvement and GR III will be the best option. Ricoh Gr IV will be available in mid -September for $ 1500.
