Mustafa Barghouti, Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative, says: “We are looking for real peace, not just a ceasefire.” After a devastating two-year war that claimed the lives of more than 70,000 people and destroyed most of the Gaza Strip, Mr. Barghouti affirms the right of the Palestinian people to be free from occupation and to have a state of their own. The people of Gaza “not only lost their loved ones, their children, their fathers, their mothers, their husbands, their daughters, they lost their homes, they lost their facilities, they lost everything they had. I mean, when you talk about almost 92% of all homes that were destroyed. When you talk about total devastation and destruction of infrastructure. It’s a huge loss. And so there is hope, and that hope is that we will overcome all of this if This war has stopped.”
