Philippe Clement insists he never considered a move away from Rangers despite the challenges he faced.
The Belgian won the Scottish League Cup shortly after taking over as manager in October 2023, but this has proven to be the pinnacle of his tenure so far.
Moving financial targets in the summer has affected recruitment, key board positions have only recently been filled after the club was left to fend for themselves for a period, and a growing injury list has affected form in recent months.
Rangers – with three away wins in 11 games – sit 15 points behind Premier League leaders Celtic, with a section of disgruntled Ibrox fans walking out of Sunday’s 3-1 win over St Johnstone in protest to the board and their public support for the manager.
Before Wednesday’s match against Aberdeen Live on Sky SportsClement was asked if he thought he could do without everything.
“No, to be honest, the bigger the challenge, the hungrier I am in life,” said the former Club Brugge and Belgium international, who revealed captain James Tavernier and Leon Balogun are back in training again.
“I think a lot of people realize that a lot of things have changed here which has made things more complicated in the last couple of months, but it makes it a bigger challenge to get where you want to get.
“This is very clear and it is good now that everyone is united and has the same plan to get there. So this is crucial.
“I’m a winner, I always have been. When I was young, no one believed I would become a professional footballer, and when I was a professional footballer, no one believed I would join the national team.
“So it’s about getting the best out of every second of the day and being hungry every morning that you wake up, to get the best out of that day and be better and make the people around you better.
“This is my ambition and this is my ambition every day. So this will never change.”
