Lesego Chombo is a lifetime, like her impressive achievements: she won Miss Botswana 2022 and Miss World Africa 2024 Crowts, Labor lawyer, established her charitable institution – and made history in November, and became the youngest minister in the Council of Ministers.

She was only 26 years old at the time – and she was clearly admired, the next President of Botswana Douma Boko, who has just won the umbrella of democratic change (UDC) with a landslide, which led to the overthrow of the 58 -year -old party.

It was a seismic shift in the policy of the Southern African-rich diamond nation, and a 55-year-old lawyer who trained Harvard, who had reached Earth.

He said that his main focus is the reform of the diamond -based economy, BBC tells before his opening that he wants the youth to be the solution – “To become entrepreneurs, use themselves and employ others.”

The key to this was to find a suitable ambassador – Chombo was clearly: a young woman who is already committed to various reasons.

Make the Minister of Youth and Sex.

“I was never proud to be a young man.

“I am a young man who lives in Botswana, enthusiastic about young development, gender equality, but also enthusiastic about developing children.”

The beauty queen was not a campaign to be a deputy – it is the so -called elected member of Parliament – and it is now one of only six deputies in the National Assembly of 69 members.

Chumbo said to become a deputy and then the minister came as a complete surprise.

“He was appointed by a president who never met me,” she said.

“Miss World and the trip that I thought was supposed to follow because my final destination is only the platform through which I was seen for this particular role.”

She was crowning like Miss Botswana in 2022, which raised her personal file and enabled her to campaign for social change, while she was trying to inspire other young women.

He also gave her the opportunity to establish the Lesego Chombo Foundation, which focuses on supporting the disadvantaged youth and their parents in rural areas – which are still participating with, its projects funded by companies companies and others.

She said: “We are striving to get a world we feel and see and represent. I feel overwhelmingly happy because I came across the essence of this acting.”

Lesego Chombo, now 27 years old, is a colleague of a law firm in Gaborone

While preparing for the Miss World competition last year, she said: “I really put myself in the service area. I really directed it to this great crown.”

Now in the political position, the expectations that were placed on it in a country where about 60 % of the population are less than 35 years old.

It also has a high level of unemployment – 28 %, which is higher for young people and women who have limited economic opportunities and fight systematic corruption.

“This is currently in Botswana, unemployment rates are very high.

“But this is not only the unemployment rate, it is also the field of youth development.

“It lacks, so my desire is to create an environmental system, an environment, a society, and an economy in which young people can flourish.”

Chumbo said her plan was to develop a comprehensive system that sponsors youth -led initiatives, enhancing entrepreneurship and making sure that young people have a seat on the table when decisions are made.

With Botswana’s anti -corruption policy that is subject to a strict review, she said that this will ensure that the shares of young entrepreneurs – when state departments and agencies were reached by tenders for goods and services.

The government has started reviewing forensic medicine for a period of 10 months of government spending, which will include 30 state -owned institutions.

In fact, President Boko intends to conduct corruption on corruption, and seeing this as a way to renew the investor confidence and diversify the economy – which is his deputy seeks to carry out on recent trips to the United Arab Emirates (United Arab Emirates) and Switzerland.

A major deal has now been secured with the UAE -based CCI Global, and it is equipped to use external sources of commercial operations, to open a center in Botswana.

While the development of youth is a central pillar of its work, sexual arrows remain close to their heart.

Its short time coincided with his position with an increasing protest against sex -based violence.

According to the US Population Fund’s report (UNFPA), more than 67 % of women in Botswana have witnessed ill -treatment, more than twice the global average.

“It is painful to know that I could be after that,” she confessed.

A month after her appointment, she was criticized for a vote against an opposition proposal in Parliament to create “peace offices” at police stations and reconciliation courts to deal quickly with the victims.

At a time when she said that such provisions were already present within the law and what was required is more public awareness.

This was followed in January, the police report indicated that at least 100 women were raped and 10 others were killed during the holiday season – and this caused public anger with a lot of revenge on them on social media because of this issue.

Repeat the minister – on several occasions, Including before Parliament in March – Botswana had many applicable laws and strategies and what was important was to ensure its application already.

But it told the BBC that the government would press for the implementation of a gender -based violence law, aiming to close the legal gaps that have long hindered justice for survivors.

She was also calling for a more comprehensive approach, including ministries of health and education and the local government.

“We want the curricula that enhances property rights between the sexes from a young age,” said Chombo.

“We want to teach children about gender -based violence and how to prevent it.

“It will summarize in the inclusion of sexual education at home, how parents behave around their children, and how they design good behavior.”

Lesego Chombo used her fame to push her projects for social change – with a focus on young people

It was also sound about the need to address issues affecting men, especially about mental health and positive masculinity, and encouraging leaders “to ensure that our patriarchal culture does not perpetuate the sexual violence.”

I hear a lot of people say: “Why do you talk about women more than men? “

“This is because as in society, women are often biased (against).

“But when we talk about gender equality, we say that it should be applied equal to all. But what we seek is property rights between the sexes.”

Chombo, who studied law at Botswana University, said it is a fruit for her mother and other strong women to inspire her – saying that women should work “more than 10 times” for success.

“(My mother) managed to create an environment for me to flourish. I realized, I realized that it is not easy.

As women, we face a lot of pressure: “Women cannot do it. Women cannot do so. Women cannot be young and in driving. ”I am currently facing.”

Julia Morley, CEO of Miss World, also strengthened her to help her: “She managed to create a legacy of what we call beauty with the goal of many young girls around the world.

“We just deeply inspired us to assume social responsibility.”

Chumbo is serious about this. She knows the lying of the Queen full of leather, and she knows that she made history-but she also realizes that her real work has just started.

“The effect is the tangible effect. This is what will be successful for me,” she said.

“I want to look back and see that he is sustainable. When I leave, another person can tolerate.”
