I just read an excellent book Pick a diet solution By Dr. Judith Beck. I was looking for a book that applies cognitive behavioral therapy to weight loss, and I reached this books in searching for Amazon. CBT is excellent for improving negative thinking patterns that affect our behavior. Personally, I notice negative thoughts that lead to bad eating habits, especially snacks (such as when the voice of the little temptation whispered, “What can harm this only once?”) And I think others may also help, and CBT may help in it. It turns out that Dr. Beck’s father was a pioneer in CBT and she is well aware of this, and is excellent to write this book.

I went for several weeks and avoided snacks between meals and unplanned food in meals, and two falls. In the first two weeks, I had to go out, but then it became easier due to the application of techniques from this book. To clarify, Dr. Beck means “diet” in the sense of a healthy way to eat, not some bad diet. Each chapter of the chapter contains the “What You Think” section, about what Dr. Beck calls “sabotaging ideas”, and how to respond to them. Very useful.

It was the most inspiring part of the book when she was forced to put her little son on the ketone diet as a treatment for epilepsy. Keto has achieved good success for this, but this is a severe diet that should put a small child. Fortunately, I worked in epilepsy, but he had to tolerate it for six years! Imagine the required discipline, not treated, not between snacks of meals, a strict diet at the time of the meal, going to school and watching your friends indulge in things that you cannot get. He learned to only say “well” for temptation, and move forward. If the child can show such a wonderful will, I think I can say “well” and say no to snacks.
