The US military carried out another strike on a suspected drug ship off the coast of Venezuela, killing six suspected smugglers, President Donald Trump announced Tuesday.
“Under my standing authorities as Commander-in-Chief, the Secretary of War this morning ordered a lethal kinetic strike on a designated terrorist organization (DTO) vessel that is trafficking narcotics in the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility – just off the coast of Venezuela. Intelligence confirmed that the vessel was trafficking narcotics, was associated with illicit terrorist narcotics networks, and was transiting along a known DTO route,” Trump wrote. Tuesday on Truth Social.
“The strike was carried out in international waters, and six drug terrorists on board the ship were killed in the strike,” Trump said. No American forces were harmed.
These strikes come after the White House sent a memo to lawmakers on September 30 informing them that the United States was now engaged in a “non-international armed conflict” with drug traffickers.
Additionally, it follows four other fatal strikes against alleged drug boats in the Caribbean since September.
