Postecoglou could see ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ amid Spurs’ injury crisis

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou says he can finally see the end of his side’s injury crisis when key players start to return.

Cristian Romero was seen in training on Thursday, and Rodrigo Bentancur made his return against Hoffenheim in the Europa League after coming off concussion.

Micky van de Ven is expected to return next week, while Destiny Udogie and Guglielmo Vicario should be available in early February.

Spurs have been returning to Barebones in recent weeks, having only 14 senior players available for their match on Thursday evening.

And although there is another big blow with the loss of Dominic Solanke, Postoglou remains positive that he can get his players back and make some additions before the transfer window closes.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash with Leicester, he said: “We should have a light at the end of the tunnel in a couple of weeks, it’s not a terrible prospect but at the same time, there’s always a possibility before a couple of those guys (current players in form) get back in.” .

“It’s been a couple of months of grinding hard for the players, just trying to support them as much as we can. Our schedule is not going to ease up at all.

“The resilience and determination of the players to go out and perform is amazing to me, I couldn’t be more proud of them.

“We will benefit from the growth of our young players, but we have to be careful with them, we can’t ask 18-year-olds to keep dipping in and out.

“I thought Archie (Gray) out of position was great, Lukas (Bergvall) worked his socks off at the time and Mickey (Moore) got an assist.

“So there is no doubt that we will benefit from these players for many years to come. They have had a difficult start to their careers. I think it is very positive.”

He added: “All these things are known, nothing has changed in the last 24 hours.

“We found out with the DOM probably a few days ago, I had a press conference in the meantime, so all these things are known.”
