Another goal, another record for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo, 40, became the player who scored the most goals in World Cup qualifiers after scoring two goals for Portugal in a 2-2 draw with Hungary on Tuesday in Lisbon.
His first goal, from close range in the 22nd minute, was Ronaldo’s 40th goal in a World Cup qualifying match, breaking a tie with former Guatemala player Carlos Ruiz.
Then the Al-Nasr striker added the second goal in stoppage time of the first half, extending his record to 41 goals in the 50 matches he played in the World Cup qualifiers.
Ronaldo now has a record 143 goals in men’s international matches.
He left the field in the 78th minute with the score at 2-1 and Hungary equalizing in stoppage time through Dominik Szoboszlai, preventing Portugal from clinching a World Cup place with two group matches remaining.
Portugal still leads Group F, five points behind Hungary, which is in second place.
Andy Petrillo sits down with Canadian men’s national team forward Tajon Buchanan, now starring for Villarreal, to talk about life in Spain, his breakout season, and what’s next with Canada.
