Portugal says it will get to know a Palestinian state on Sunday, which makes it the latest Western country preparing to change politics because the war in the Gaza Strip does not show any sign of stopping.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued the announcement before the United Nations General Assembly next week (UNGA) in New York.

France, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia are preparing similar ads.

Israel condemned this step, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said it was “equivalent to terrorism” after the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023 on Israel.

The United States – the main ally of Israel – chanted Netanyahu’s argument.

President Donald Trump, speaking with Prime Minister Sir Kerr Starmer, said this week, during his visit to the state to the United Kingdom, he did not agree to recognize.

About three quarters of the 193 members of the United Nations who already recognize the Palestinian state, which in 2012 gave the state of the non -member observer.

As world leaders are ready to gather at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, the Israeli tanks and forces continue to advance to Gaza City as part of the ground attack, forcing thousands of people to flee.

The Israeli army launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas -led attack on southern Israel in 2023, where about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others took hostage.

At least 65,141 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since then, according to the Ministry of Health in the region.
