Police says that the hotel fire in Kolkata, India kills at least 14 people.

New Delhi – Police said on Wednesday that a fire was torn in a hotel in Kolkata, eastern India, killing at least 14 people. The chief police officer, Manuj Kumar Verma, told reporters that the fire broke out on Tuesday evening at the Returaj Hotel in central Kolkata and was photographed after an effort that took six fire engines. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.

The photos and videos that were implemented in the Indian media showed people trying to escape through the windows and narrow edges of the building.

The Telegraph newspaper reported in Kolkata that at least one person died when he jumped from a balcony trying to escape.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X that he was “had” loss of lives in the fire.

Fires are common in India, where builders and residents often abandon safety and symbols of safety. Activists say that the builders often reduce the corners of safety to save costs and accuse the civil authorities of neglect and indifference.

In 2022, at least 27 people were killed when a massive fire was torn despite a four -storey commercial building in New Delhi.
