Police said that a tourist bus returns to New York City from Niagra Falls with 51 passengers that were shattered and rolled on Friday on a highway between the states, killing and wounding several people.
The bus seems to have lost control of I-90 near Pembroke, New York, about 40 km east of Bovalo. People were expelled inside as windows were shattered.
“At this time, we have multiple deaths, multiple settings and multiple injuries,” said James Oukhan, a soldier of New York State police spokesman, adding that the children were on board.
Several ambulances and medical helicopters transported patients from the accident. Okahan said that the translators were brought to the scene.
Oakhan said the bus was going east when it entered the average and then ended up in a trench on the right side of the road.
“The driver is alive and healthy,” he said. “We are working with him. We think we have a good idea of what happened, and why the bus lost control.”
The Mercy Flight Air said that its three planes were transporting people from the crash site to the region’s hospitals. The Eric Medical County Center, Bovalo Hospital known as ECMC, said he had at least eight patients by 2:10 pm East time.
Mercy Fernino’s head, Margaret Fernino, said that three other helicopters were called from other services to the scene, as well as ambulances from multiple area agencies.
“It is a very active scene,” said Verinino. “At this time we pray for the victims.”
New York State Authority said that a long extension of the road was closed in both directions and drivers were urged to avoid the area.
