A new defense treaty sees by the Agence France -Presse news agency that Australia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) will adhere to defending each other from armed attacks as they face “emerging threats” to their security.
The South Pacific State celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of independence from Australia on Tuesday, where the treaty is expected to be closed on Wednesday.

The agreement, which is seen as a strong boost to confront China’s effect on the Pacific OceanIt will be signed by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albaniz and his counterpart in Babua New Guinea James Mareby in the capital, Port Morsbi.
The agreement, which also enables nations citizens to serve in armies each other, allows Png citizens to obtain Australian citizenship.
“Every party realizes that the armed attack on either side within the Pacific Ocean will be dangerous for each other’s peace, security and the security of the Pacific,” according to Agence France -Presse.
Under the treaty, both parties will act to meet the common danger, according to its constitutional processes.
On Tuesday, Australia offered PNG gift to its parliamentary home. Albaniz was among the government leaders who gathered in Hill’s independence in Port Morsbi to attend the science education ceremony.
Albaniz said Australia will support the construction of a new ministerial wing for the National Parliament of PNG.
“Our support for the expansion of the parliament is an investment in democracy and sovereignty in Papua New Guinea, which will benefit future generations,” Albaniz said in a statement.

The United States was represented in the celebration by Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. Prince Edward, his brother, King Charles III, is the head of the PNG state.
Charles attended the first independence ceremony in 1975, represented by his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Australia emphasizes its respect for Babua New Guinea, which some local lawmakers fear through a proposed bilateral defense treaty.
Many Pacific Island countries, including Babua New Guinea, are trying not to arrest a sides of the superpower in the growing strategic competition between Beijing and Washington’s allies such as Australia.
Some legislators in Babua New Guinea fear the bilateral treaty with Australia that its foreign policy of “a friend of all, the enemy to nothing.”
Albaniz was originally planning to sign the treaty with his counterpart, James Margapi, on Monday before independence celebrations. He announced on Monday, before leaving Australia, that the signing was delayed until Wednesday. “We will be able to strengthen the treaty tomorrow,” Albaniz told reporters at Port Morsby.
PNG independence is widely considered unusual due to the diversity of its population, with a population of about 12 million. It has more than 800 languages of indigenous people.
