“Please start an ATM-like service”: An unusual request from the startup founder to Blinkit, CEO Albinder Dhindsa

Days after Blinkit announced its 10-minute ambulance service, the startup founder and YouTuber asked Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa to start an “ATM-like” service. The founder said that this service would be “very useful.”

The reason for his tweet was also explained in a later tweet. “I’m leaving on a trip and need money. Gharpe total Rs 100 in cash (I have Rs 100 in cash). Don’t want to go to ATM. But I have to,” he said in a reply to the tweet.

The Punjabi tweet elicited the best responses, with some pointing out that the delivery charges would attract 18 per cent GST, while others said Plinkett would make Indians very lazy. Many have wondered why he needs cash when UPI is accepted and available everywhere anyway.

“Achcha hai idea, delivery fee equivalent 18% GST ruin mood kar digha (idea is good but 18% GST on delivery fee will ruin everything),” one user said, while another joked: “Bro, this scheme Dedicated to someone else ko pata nahi lagni chahiye (This scheme must remain a secret).”

“Saans bhi le humare pe blinkit, itne alsi hogaye hai hum (Why doesn’t Blinkit breathe for us too, we’ve become so lazy),” lamented one user, while another joked: “Bas bhai itna bhi aalsi nahi.” bnana India ko (Please brother, let’s not make India so lazy too).”

One user pointed out that similar schemes already exist, for example, customers go to stores, pay more than the bill amount, and get the extra cash back to pay, say, an auto rickshaw driver.

“Why do you want cash? Cash should be eliminated. Maximum digitization is needed,” said one of them, while another said arranging small notes becomes difficult sometimes, especially when UPI cannot be used for it.

It should be noted here that similar services already exist, including platforms such as MakeMyTrip, for delivering foreign currencies.

On January 2, Plinkett announced her own ambulance service. “We are taking our first step towards solving the problem of providing fast and reliable ambulance service in our cities. The first five ambulances will be on the road in Gurugram starting today. As we expand the service to more areas, you will start seeing the option to book a life support ambulance,” Dhindsa said.
