Manchester United are fourth in the Europa League standings, with only one ‘league stage’ left to play, after beating Rangers 2-1 at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.
Rangers looked to have snatched a late point to boost their hopes of reaching the knockout rounds when Cyril Dissons canceled out an earlier goal from the former goalkeeper in the pub. But Bruno Fernandes popped up with a ‘captain’s goal’ later in the 92nd minute to win it.
It was a much-needed tonic for Ruben Amorim and his team on the back of Sunday’s agonizing Premier League defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, but in reality a fourth successive win in Europe.
United’s fate ahead of their eighth-game trip to FCSB in Romania is in their hands, with the hope of staying in the top eight and getting past the qualifying round straight into the last 16 with the top eight likely to be outside them.
