Two goals scored by Leon Goretzka helped Bayern Munich win 3-2 over Wolfsburg, leaving the Bavarian giant seven points clear at the top of the standings. German League table.

The hosts have seen defending champions Bayer Leverkusen take the lead in recent weeks and appear determined to retain the title they won unbeaten last season.

Bayern They started the game on the attacking foot and were rewarded for their effort in the 20th minute when Goretzka, back in the game after a spell out of the side, advanced unchallenged towards Wolfsburg’s penalty area before curling a low shot beyond the reach of Kamil Grabara.

But that joy did not last long, as a cloudy Michael Olise allowed Mohamed Amoura to score past Manuel Neuer four minutes later.

The former Crystal Palace playmaker made up for his loss of concentration five minutes before half-time, restoring Bayern’s lead with more than one assist from Grabara. Olise made several passes outside the Wolfsburg penalty area, and his shot should have been easily blocked by the Polish goalkeeper. But somehow he let the effort of skimming escape his grasp, and rolled quietly over the line.

Joshua Kimmich had the third goal disallowed by VAR before the end of the first half, but it did not matter as Bayern extended their advantage just after the hour mark. Olise curled a brilliant free-kick into Wolfsburg’s penalty area, where the onrushing and unmarked Goretzka headed home a rebound off Grabara’s inside post.

Bayern had 25 shots in total, ten of which were on target, but they threatened to erode their advantage by allowing Wolfsburg back into the game in the dying embers.

Thiago Thomas’s brilliant goal, which should have been stopped by a tactical error from Bayern, allowed Amauri to pull away from Dayot Upamecano, and he slotted another crucial goal past Neuer to set up a brilliant finish.

However, Bayern held on, coming out of the game to record their 14th win of the season.
