Oscar Valdez will take a lightweight competition from 10 rounds against Ricky, who next month on September 6 in Domo Penassional, in his hometown of Nogalis, Mexico.
The future of broadcast Top Rank
The first rank did not reveal the network, if any, the battle of Valdez-Medina will be shown. Their contract ended for seven years with ESPN last month on July 26. They still have to search for a new broadcasting deal.
Valdz has not fighted former world-show world champion (32-3, 24 Cos) since last December when he stopped in the sixth round by the Wbo Super Rightweight Emanuel Navarrete champion.
The promoter Bob Arum says Valdez will seek to get the third world title. None of their heroes will be mentioned in 130. It will be uncomfortable to fight Navarrete again after it took control of it twice. The other heroes, Lamong Roach Jr, Eduardo ‘Sugar’ Nunez, and “Shaquie Foster, will also be brutal battles for him as well.
Decisive test for Valdez
“Oscar Valdez is a proud warrior, and this is a great opportunity for him to return to their homes and prove that he still has what is necessary to compete at 130 pounds,” said Bob Arum, Chairman of Top Rank. “Oscar has been with the highest rank since he turned to the professionals, and we are in his corner because he tries to become the world champion three times.”
Medina (26-7, 10 KOS) lost two of his last three battles, and this is not likely to be identical to this version of Valdez. However, with his youth, Oscar may give a real test. We do not know what Valdez left in the tank at this stage of his 13 -year career. He lost three of his last five battles, being beaten twice by Navarti and once by Shakur Stephenson. These were all unilateral affairs.
Can Valdez restore the last glory?
Valdez should think about declining to 126 and trying to restore his success in the weight category. This is where he started his career and fought at the highest levels. It is not strong or skilled enough to match any of the heroes in 130.
