OMV Petrom discovers a new natural gas tank in Swinini, Romania

Romanian -based OMV Petrom has discovered a new natural gas tank in Swinini, which represents a remarkable development in the energy sector in southeastern Europe.

This discovery is located about 70 km northeast of the southwestern city of Craiova, and it has been dug at a depth of about 4,800 meters.

The exploration well confirmed the presence of natural gas and condensate, with the production test for the results.

Well tests indicated the possibility of a production of 180,000 cubic meters of natural gas and 25 intensive meters per day.

This translates into a total of 1,300 barrels of the equivalent of oil daily from the well of discovery, indicating a large addition to the energy resources in the region.

“In 2025, we are planning to invest 5.8 billion liters in exploration and production, with nearly half of the allocations for wild operations, as it also advances in Neptune Depp, a strategic project that requires a major investment,” said Christian Hopeti, a member of the Petrom Explography & Forder Board of Directors.

“We are still investing to contain the natural decrease in production from mature fields and follow up on new opportunities close to our current operations.”

The possibility was initially determined by using data from the 3D seismic scanning, which was conducted in 2022 within the X Craiova mass.

The commercial feasibility test phase of discovery has been established, allowing the approval of the development plan to exploit the tank.

During the exploration phase of this land project, OMV Petrom invested about 15 million euros ($ 17.6 million).
