INR 60,000 per night in Goa – and no Uber to get there? It is this shock that is fueling the growing exodus of Indian tourists to cheaper and cleaner beach destinations in Southeast Asia.

Financial expert and investor Sunil Kumar Talriya sparked a viral conversation online with a candid post on X: “Just look at the prices in Goa during November and December, you will be shocked.” He pointed out premium resorts like Taj that charge up to INR 60,000 per night, Marriott hotels that charge close to INR 25,000, and even 3-4-star hotels that charge more than INR 10,000. “And that’s not all,” he added. “You will also end up paying a premium for cabs since there is no Uber or Ola.”

His post tapped into the growing feeling among Indian travelers that the gap between price and value in Goa has become too wide to ignore. In comparison, destinations like Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia offer similar or better resort experiences, cleaner beaches, and organized transportation at about half the cost.

The data supports this. In Thailand, 4-5 star resorts during peak season range from INR 5,200 to INR 11,500 per night. In Vietnam, quality stays start at less than INR 10,000. Organized transportation applications and infrastructure improve the experience.

The Taj Cidade de Goa in Goa charges over INR 46,000 for premium rooms, while Fort Aguada costs over INR 27,000. Marriott hotels rates go up to INR 25,000 depending on the dates. Local taxi prices remain high due to the absence of app-based services.

Tourism platforms report a sharp increase in Indian travel to Southeast Asia. Many cite cost, cleaner amenities and smoother logistics as deciding factors.

“No wonder so many Indians now prefer to travel abroad,” Talreja wrote.
