Jawakin Joseman Lopez acknowledged that he was not guilty of the five charges of smuggling drugs, conspiracy and money laundering against him, one of which carries the maximum death penalty as it was implemented on American soil.

He was transferred to the reservation in the United States in the arrest of July 2024, along with the founder of the alleged Cenalo Cartel, Ismail Zambada, at New Mexico Airport.

Zambada also admitted that he was not guilty. But his lawyer told Reuters news agency that he would be ready to support if the prosecutors agreed to avoid the death penalty.

“El Chapo” Guzman is serving a lifelong prison sentence in a maximum security prison in Colorado.
