Nicholas Jackson extended after handling the Red Red Card in the club’s World Cup

Chelsea striker Nicholas Jackson was handed over a debtor after his dismissal during the Blues World Cup defeat Flamingo.

Jackson Reed saw the Chelsea 3-1 loss in Lincoln Financial in Philadelphia on June 20, as he came as a substitute in the second half before receiving march orders for a reckless challenge on Ariston Lucas of Flamingo.

FIFA issued a statement saying: “The FIFA Disciplinary Committee imposed the following punishment on Chelsea player Nicholas Jackson, who was expelled as a result of a red card directly during the FIFA 2025 World Cup match between his team and CR Flamengo in Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, on June 20, 2025.

A defeat in that match would eliminate the Premier League team from the tournament.

In the aftermath of the accident, Jackson moved to social media for an apology.

He said: “I want to say sorry. For the club, the employees, my teammates, and all the fans who watch, I let you down.

“Another red card … frankly, I am very angry at myself. I work hard every day to help the team not to put in this type of position.

“I still do not fully understand how that happened. But one thing is clear: it was not intended. Just a moment of football walked in a wrong way.

This is not the first disciplinary flash point for Jackson in recent weeks. His previous red card has raised eyebrows, and now questions are asked about his mood and his ability to manage his aggression in high risk moments.

With the Blues now needed to win to avoid early exit, Maresca should find a way to compete without the attacker.

Cole Palmer, who has also been criticized for inconsistent shows during the tournament, may bear a greater creative responsibility in the last third and is likely to be finally thrown.
