Joe Westley, son of former Newport manager Graham, came off the bench to score on his Swindon debut and earn the Robins a 2-1 victory at Rodney Parade.

Ian Holloway’s men move up to 16th in League Two, 11 points off bottom two, while a fifth successive defeat leaves the county in the 20th.

The hosts took the lead in the twelfth minute when David Ajiboye exploded for a try, and his curling effort was too hot for Swindon’s Jack Beecroft, allowing Kyle Hudlin to curl in the recovery.

But Swindon were level within three minutes when Harry Smith took advantage of a lucky Ricochet and let fly from 25 yards, his shot superbly blocked and beating Nick Townsend at his near post.

Harry Smith equalized for Swindon within three minutes of Newport scoring, with a stunningly successful debut.

Townsend went down well to clear a shot from Nnamdi Ofoborh shortly after the break and the visitors were rewarded for an improved second half with the winner 15 minutes from time.

Tunmise Sobowale broke down the right and crossed for the 20-year-old Westley striker, who only joined Swindon on loan from Burnley on Thursday, into the slot.
