Nelly explains his decision to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration

Previously, The Shade Room reported that Nelly was scheduled to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday, January 20. The news first broke when CBS correspondent Taurean Smalls shared it on X (formerly Twitter) on January 17.

Now, the St. Louis manager is explaining his decision to be part of the celebration to Donnie. Nelly joined the rapper Willie D for a conversation on YouTube, where he addressed his choice – sparking a lot of backlash across social media.

In the video interview, Nelly explained that he would not perform at Trump’s inauguration for the money.

“I’m not doing this for the money. I’m doing this because it’s an (honor). I respect the office. It doesn’t matter who’s in office. The same way our men and women and brothers and sisters who protect this country have to go to war and put their lives on the line to “So, if they can put their lives on the line for anyone in office,” Nelly explained, “then I can definitely perform for anyone in office.”

Willie D also pointed out all the backlash Nelly has received since announcing he was part of the inaugural ball lineup. He even asked Nelly how he would respond to people criticizing him for supporting white supremacists. But the rapper said he needs proof that Donald Trump is a white supremacist. “I would ask them to explain to me where he is a white supremacist.” Nelly added.
