In Mozambique, new President Daniel Chapo was sworn in in the capital, Maputo. In his first presidential address, he pledged to promote unity in a nation reeling from post-election violence. Venancio Mondlane, the candidate who came in second place in the October elections, continues to challenge the results and has called for a national strike in protest. The demonstrations resulted in the deaths of at least seven people.
