Morocco arrests hundreds of demonstrators while gatherings turn into violence News protest

The Ministry of Interior says that the Moroccan authorities arrested more than 400 people during the violent protests demanding reforms in the public health and education sectors.

The fifth night of the youth protests were on Wednesday in cities throughout the country of North Africa, but the authorities said that the fourth night had turned into more violence than before. They reported 263 members of the security forces and wounded 23 civilians, as the demonstrators brought the looted cars and shops.

Online demonstrations were organized through a youthful, unknown youth group that calls itself Genz 212, using platforms including Tiktok, Instagram and Discord to apply games.

A spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior said in a statement that on Tuesday night, the youth connected the knives and threw the Molotov cocktails and stones. He said that 409 people were transferred to the nursery.

He said that the administrative buildings, banks and shops were looted or sabotaged in the cities of Souss in Ait Amira, Enzjan, Agad and Tizit, as well as the city of Ogda Al Sharqiya.

Videos on social media and verification by the island showed damaged ATM machines and a bank building that seemed to be looted with broken glass scattered across the ground.

In the jobs discussing the protests, the Genz 212 Group said it has rejected violence and is constantly committed to peaceful protests. She had no debate with the security forces, only with the government.

The Ministry of Interior’s statement said that 142 security forces and 20 private cars have caught fire.

The peaceful protests on the economic and social conditions were frequent in Morocco, but the demonstrations this week are the most violent since 2016 and 2017 at least when the demonstrators clashed with the security forces in the RIF area in the north.

The spokesman said that the Ministry of Interior will support the right to protest in accordance with legal procedures and will respond to “restraint and self -control, and avoid provocation.”
