Republican Mike Johnson was narrowly elected Speaker of the US House of Representatives on Friday after hard-right members of the GOP initially abstained from voting. The Guardian’s Washington correspondent, David Smith, told France 24 that Republican Party members eventually rallied in support of Johnson, but “this brief rebellion today signals more potential opposition in the future.”
