A legal notice was issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Brazil due to the spread of gambling advertisements on their social platforms.

The parent company was directed to Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp to remove content, after searching for the Meta ads library, which contains “hundreds” of active ads from profiles that lack the power to promote gambling.

In Brazil, the Ministry of Finance Secretariat for Awards and Bets is the body responsible for granting authority.

The notice sent to Meta from AGU requires removing all the unacceptable gambling content within 48 hours, with an additional warning to support any unlicensed betting platforms in the future.

As is detailed from AGUThe communication that was sent to the social media giant:

“This, therefore, is clearly illegal activity (given that these personal files are not authorized by the Ministry of Finance), which may also be linked to tax evasion, money laundering, crimes against consumer relations, fraud and other illegal practices, whose advertisements are an equal activity.”

Legal efforts to eliminate gambling advertisements in Brazil
