Marcus Rashford says the “inconsistent environment” at Manchester United contributed to his disappointing performances towards the end of his time at Old Trafford.
Rashford struggled for form, often looking disinterested during his final years at United before being dropped from the team altogether by Ruben Amorim.
He was transferred to Aston Villa on loan and then again to Barcelona at the start of this season.
Barcelona have the option of making the move permanent and Rashford is doing everything he can to ensure he stays in Catalonia after scoring three times and adding five assists in 10 games, including a brace as Hansi Flick’s side won 2-1 over Newcastle in the Champions League.
The 27-year-old appears to have regained his appetite for the game and says his performance levels have declined at United due to the ongoing uncertainty around the club.
You need constants in your life to perform well – Rashford
Responding to a remark made by England coach Thomas Tuchel that he just needs consistency to take him to world class level, Rashford told ITV: “Definitely, consistency is a big part of it.
“I feel like I’ve been in an inconsistent environment for too long, so it’s very difficult to be consistent.
“But I completely agree, I think consistency is what I need to achieve in my game and I’m looking forward to doing that.
“I want to be the best I can be, not sometimes, but as often as possible.
“When people talk about consistency, to be consistent in anything and not just sports, you need consistent variables in your life and the way you train.
“We’ve made a lot of changes so far in my career but I have to look forward and that’s definitely one of the things I want to correct and improve to be a lot better at my best.
“When I’m at my best I really enjoy everything about the sport.”
