Manchester Arena Bomber’s brother accused of attacking prison guards

The brother of the terrorist who bombed the concert Ariana Grande in Manchester, England, was accused in 2017 on Saturday of operating a violent attack in a severe prison where he was spending time in the bombing of concerts.

The prison officers Association, a body representing prison staff throughout Britain, said that the man, Hashem Abedi, 28, attacked three guards in the Frankland prison, a prison in Durham County in northeastern England. The association said that the officers received “burns, standards and stabbing wounds” during the attack.

A statement issued by the organization said that Mr. Abedi “threw hot cooking oil on it, then produced homemade weapons and began to stab the officers.”

A spokesman for the prison department in the country said that as of 4 pm on Saturday, one of the officers was treated for a woman, for her hospital injuries and then drained. Two males remained in the hospital.

In 2020, Mr. Abedi obtained a life sentence with a minimum of 55 years of his role in the 2017 attack in Manchester. The terrorist group of the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the bombing, which was the most deadly terrorist attack in Britain since a series of bombings that struck public transport throughout London in 2005.

Mr. Abedi was convicted of killing the 22 victims who died in the explosion after the prosecutors said he was “completely responsible” like his brother Salman Abedi, who died in the attack. British law did not allow the judge to give Mr. Abedi to be a life imprisonment sentence without a conditional release, because it was under the age of 21 at the time of the attack.

In a statement about the Saturday attack, the prison service said: “The police are now investigating, so it will be not appropriate to comment more. Violence will not be tolerated in prison, and we will always press for the strongest penalty for our attacks on our diligent employees.”

The attack is being investigated by Durham Constabolri, who said his inquiries are continuing.
