Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina said on Monday that he was forced to move to a safe place to protect his life, after weeks of youth protests demanding his resignation. Speaking to France 24, Dr Luke Freeman of University College London said that Rajoelina, despite first coming to power by championing reform, was “unable to address the root problems” of Madagascar, and instead focused on “vanity projects”.
