Macron reappoints Sébastien Lecornu as Prime Minister of France

French President Emmanuel Macron has reappointed Sébastien Lecornu as Prime Minister, entrusting him with the task of forming a government and trying to approve the 2026 budget.

Lecornu said on the X program that he had accepted Macron’s “mission” to “do everything so that France has a budget at the end of the year.”

France has been witnessing a worsening political crisis since Macron called for early elections last year, which resulted in a hung parliament.

Lecornu, a close ally of Macron, resigned on Monday after less than a month in office after facing difficulties in finalizing his government.

Hours later, Macron assigned him to lead two days of negotiations with political parties to try to find a way out of the impasse, with the aim of reaching a budget to reduce the deficit.

“We must put an end to this political crisis that angers the French people and this instability that harms France’s image and interests,” Lecornu said on Friday evening.
