British police said they had arrested more than 200 people in central London on Saturday as supporters of a banned pro -Palestinians intentionally as part of their efforts to force the government to reconsider this ban.
In early July, Parliament passed a law prohibiting Palestine and making it a crime to publicly support the organization. This came after activists stormed the Royal Air Force Base and sabotaged two carriers to protest against Britain’s support for Israel’s attack against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Supporters of the group, who made a series of protests throughout the United Kingdom during the past month, argue that the law illegally restricts freedom of expression.
More than 500 demonstrators filled the square outside the role of Parliament on Saturday, as many bold police arrested them by offering reading signs “I oppose genocide. I support the Palestinians to work.” That was enough for the police to enter.
But when the demonstration began to go out, police organizers and protest erupted on the number of arrests as the organizers sought to show that the law is not applicable.
“The police were not only able to arrest a small part of those who commit” terrorism “crimes, and most of these guarantees were granted in the streets and were allowed to return home,” she said in a statement. “This is a great embarrassment for (the government), which increases the credibility of this widely restored law, which was brought to punish those who suffer from government crimes.”
The Capital Police Service soon fell, saying that this was not true and that many of those who gathered in the square were spectators, media or people who did not carry banners supporting the group.
“We are confident that anyone who came to the Square of Parliament today to carry a sign, expressing its support for the effectiveness of Palestine, was arrested, or that he was arrested,” the police force said in a statement.
On Friday, the police said that the demonstration was unusual in that the demonstrators wanted to arrest them in large numbers to put pressure on the police and the wider criminal justice system.
Why is the group banned?
The government of the Labor in Britain moved to the prohibition of action Palestine after activists stormed a British air force in southern England on June 20 to protest the British military support for the Israeli war Hamas. While Prime Minister Kiir Starmer angered Israel from plans to recognize a Palestinian state later this year, many Palestinian supporters in Britain criticize the government for not making enough to end the war in Gaza.
The demonstrators supporting the Palestinians gathered on Saturday afternoon in central London in a march that ended outside the doors of Downing Street on Street No. 10, which is the residence and official offices of the Prime Minister.
World and United Nations leaders have criticized Israel’s plan to seize Gaza City, warning that it would exacerbate the humanitarian crisis.
On Sunday, a number of groups are scheduled to walk through central London to demand the safe release of the Israeli hostages in Gaza. The Palestinian militants have detained family since the criticism of the attackers led by Hamas to Israel on October 7, 2023.
The police are also preparing for protests outside hotels throughout the country, which are used to accommodate asylum seekers.
