With Ibrahima Konate yet to sign a new contract, Liverpool They are reportedly prioritizing a move to sign the Frenchman’s replacement Arnie slot In 2026.
Update on Konate’s contract with Liverpool
If there was ever a time for Liverpool to settle Konate’s contract it is now. The Reds have just lost three games in a row under Slott, who faces the toughest task of his career at Anfield to date following the international break. In that round, Konate’s form was one of many problems.
His situation mirrors Trent Alexander-Arnold’s last season, before the right-back decided to join Real Madrid as a free agent. With the arrival of the Spanish giants, the defender’s form has dropped and uncomfortable questions have surfaced. It’s hard to really say whether or not the Madrid factor played a role, but that won’t stop the same questions from arriving for Konate.
As it stands, no new contract has been signed, but negotiations are said to be continuing. As far as Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes are concerned, they want to wrap things up before January, when Konate can start negotiating a pre-contract agreement with other clubs.
“There were reports of Konate turning down a new contract… I don’t think it was much of a turn down, maybe more of a stalemate or basically no deal.
“I’ve been told talks are active and ongoing but nothing close yet. Suggestions he’s on £70,000 a week, I’m told it’s more than double that.” (David Ornstein talks about Konate’s contract)
While his deal continues to go down the drain, Liverpool will no doubt be on the hunt for alternatives to Konate before 2026. The key name on that front appears to still be him. Mark GuehiWhich came within hours of signing for the club in the summer.
Given that other clubs are now chasing the England international’s signature on a free deal next summer, however, the Reds have turned towards alternative options.
Liverpool prioritizes the Diomande deal
According to reports from Spain. Liverpool now see Ousmane Diomande as a prime target Before 2026, the Sporting defender will be targeted to replace Konate. Represented by the same agency as Virgil van Dijk, the 21-year-old is one of the most promising defenders that European football has to offer. And now a move to Merseyside could be on the horizon.
The analyst described him as a “hybrid” between Arsenal’s Gabriel and William Saliba Ben MattinsonDiomande is definitely one to watch. Although he has yet to make his mark on Sporting’s current season due to injury, his return should see him return to the team’s strongest lineup in their bid for a third consecutive Portuguese league title.
