British combat sports legend Liam Harrison will return to action for ONE Championship on December 6, live Sky Sports.
Harrison will face Japan’s Shinji Suzuki in a bantamweight kickboxing contest at Lumpini Arena in Bangkok.
The Leeds fighter is famous for his achievements and extensive experience in Muay Thai. He has now called in some time to compete in the small Muay Thai gloves and is returning to the kickboxing format.
“New test, new challenge, and it gave me goosebumps again,” he said. Sky Sports.
He explained: “Getting used to doing things like not clearly elbowing, not clinching, not taking kicks and things like that. But I’m looking forward to it. I think it will suit my style.”
“You know what you’re getting with me. Win, lose or draw, it’s going to be explosive, it’s going to be exciting.”
It’s a chance to see one of the greats of the sport before he retires completely.
“I promised myself that what I’m going to do is take it one fight at a time. If I do well in this, you’ll definitely see me again,” Harrison said.
“I’m not looking to do anything other than go out there and put in a solid performance, get a knockout, get myself back in the win column and we’ll see where we go from there.
“Everyone is basically fighting for their lives out there. There is a lot at stake. And I have no illusions about how tough this fight will be.”
“He has very heavy hands,” Harrison added of Suzuki. “It won’t be easy.”
However, Harrison had a warning for his next opponent: “When I’m at my best and I start stringing punches together and I end up with heavy leg kicks and things like that, I think I’m going to break him and I think I’m going to knock him out.”
For all his accomplishments, Harrison still has a point to prove. In his last fight, he suffered a stoppage loss to another Muay Thai legend, Seksan O Kwanmuang, also known as “The Man Who Submits to No One.”
“I fell three times on it, and I was cringing every time,” Harrison said. “Yet I’m still embarrassed about the way I fought, embarrassed about being stopped and I want to go back and correct that.
“This fight is still eating me up. I want to get back to ONE, get back in the win column and redeem myself.”
