Revealed: Chelsea target had ‘offer’ from Manchester United

Delap has shown huge potential with his performances for Ipswich this season, contributing eight goals and two assists in the Premier League so far.

Still only 21, one imagines there is a lot to come from Delap, so it makes sense that he would be a smart long-term signing for Chelsea.

Although Nicholas Jackson has started the season brilliantly for Chelsea, he is in very poor form at the moment as recent results and performances have declined slightly for Enzo Maresca’s side.

Chelsea have only managed one win in their last six matches in all competitions, and that was against lower-tier Morecambe side in the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, Jackson has scored just one goal in his last seven games, and has missed some big chances in recent matches.

Delap may not have proven himself yet at the highest level, but he may look like someone who has the potential to be better than Jackson before long.

Ipswich certainly wouldn’t want to sell such an important player midway through the season, but it’s also not easy to prevent star names from moving forward if big names like CFC are involved.

Chelsea may have stumbled recently, but they have mostly shown signs of real progress since Maresca took over, so Delap would certainly want to be part of this exciting project built on other talented young players.
