Let’s talk about Season 2 of Silo, especially that excellent ending

Created by Graham Yost Based on the books by Hugh Howey, the Apple TV+ show finds just the right balance between social issues and great sci-fi mystery, all of which unfold in gorgeous ensembles, with wide-ranging set pieces and fun action to boot. Everything points to a second season It would continue on this path. Sadly, as Season 2 comes to a close, we have to say it was a letdown. Ten episodes filled with frequent time wasters, leading, thankfully, to a satisfying ending with a very confusing final tease.

most silo Season 2 felt like the same two stories over and over again. And in the other mysterious silo, Juliet (Rebecca Ferguson) keeps going back and forth with Sulu (Steve Zahn) about a bunch of different things. And in the main silo, the workers deep inside – led by a mechanical company – were growing increasingly frustrated with the higher-ups, led by the head of the IT department, Bernard (Tim Robbins), leading to a threat and eventually an escalating revolt.

From week to week, one story might be more interesting than another, almost like a see-saw where things go up and down but never really go anywhere. That slowly began to change in the last few episodes, leading up to the finale when Mechanical came up with a pretty brilliant plan to try to take over the silo and when Juliet – finally and happily – returned to her silo. Throughout the entire season, audiences continued to learn fascinating tales about the world. How many hermitages, where relics are kept, who knows what, etc. All the things we wanted to know. But we rarely saw any important characters learning or sharing that knowledge, which was frustrating. This was about to change with Juliet’s return, but the ending ended before she could meet anyone else again. Which is good. We can wait.

But what’s even more exciting is that Juliette’s long-awaited return wasn’t the season finale. The season finale was a flashback that raised all kinds of issues and questions in a way that made us remember why we were watching silo In the first place.

The second scene of Season 2 takes place in modern-day Washington, D.C., where a young congressman named Donald (Ashley Zuckerman, famous for… Fear Street Movies) heads to a bar to meet a journalist named Helen (Jessica Henwick from game of thrones and Iron fist). Now, right off the bat, considering that society is still functioning, we’re poised to find out why we’ve gone back in time. How are they linked? silo?

When the two talk/flirt we learn a few things. We learn that something big has happened. The September 11 Pearl Harbor-type event does not need a label to be recognized. We know that the military did something admirable to save people in New Orleans. There are problems with Iran. For some reason, people don’t use the term “history” anymore. We also know that before joining Congress, Donald was in the Army and earned a master’s degree in engineering. It seems like an important educational focus if you want to, I don’t know, build 50 massive silos.

Donald soon realizes that this is not the blind date he thought it was, and we get as much information as possible. Helen wants to talk to him about something more serious. Essentially, whether or not retaliation from Iran is coming, and whether a “radiation weapons attack” actually occurred at all. (This immediately made us think of the big reveal.) He falls The first season where we learn… Something I don’t want to spoil here if you haven’t seen itBut this link between corrupt governments and saving the secret society seems important. Is this the place? silo is he going? I digress.)

Donald decides to leave before things get worse and gives Helen a gift. Just something he picked up at a local store. It’s a rubber duck PEZ dispenser. It’s supposed to be the same one who now lives in the silo we’ve been following for two seasons. (Oh, and the magazine Donald is holding has a picture of someone wearing a hazmat suit like Doc Brown Back to the future. Nice touch.)

Well, that’s a lot to take in, here’s what we know. This is actually a retrospective of some of the first steps in the origins of the silos, which are the main focus of the second book in Hugh Howey’s series. The bulk of this book is the story of the creation of the silos and Donald is a major player in that. and, Since we know now Both Zukerman and Henwick will be regulars in the third season of the series silo, We can safely assume that’s where next season is headed. Additionally, assuming this is the same Pez distributor now owned by Mr. Sims’ (regular) son, Helen or her family would arrive at that silo. Why did you keep it? Maybe it reminded her of the global change led by the man who gave it to her. Like we said, there’s a lot to digest.

Seeing how and why the silos were created combined with what was revealed at the end of Season 2 (particularly the “protection” stuff and the knowing sounds coming from the tunnel) seems like a perfect fit for Season 3. Juliet is back and wants to know more about who created the silos and why. And we, the audience, will be one step ahead of her when we see it happen in flashback.

They are all very exciting. Honestly, it’s enough to forgive the largely disappointing second season and get excited about what happened The third, then the fourth and lastseasons silo will be held. Do you agree? Let us know below.
