Kamala Harris’ book tour is disrupted by protesters during Chicago event

Book by former Vice President Kamala Harris Tour stop in Chicago It was disrupted several times Saturday afternoon, as security forces removed several protesters during a tense event promoting her new memoir, “107 Days.”

When Harris discussed her book with journalist Michelle Norris, who was moderating the event, at least one protester began screaming from the audience, prompting a chorus of “Get her out.” Security quickly escorted the woman from the place.

Footage from the event showed at least two additional disturbances, including a man who appeared to scream about genocide before being led away. The motives behind the protests were not immediately clear.

The audience responded with applause when Norris addressed the unrest by saying: “We encourage people to use their voices, but we want them to show respect for this woman.”

Harris responded with some humor, adding: “And please pronounce my name correctly…”

This is not the first time Harris has written The tour sparked protests. Since launching her national book tour late last month, Harris has faced similar interruptions at several stops to promote the film “107 Days,” which chronicles her 2024 presidential campaign after President Biden dropped out of the race.

The book chronicles her 107-day journey to Election Day and provides a behind-the-scenes look at the campaign decisions, staff tensions, and political challenges she faced during that period.

Beyond the immediate events, Harris’ memoir and the publicity surrounding it have drawn criticism, even from within her own party.

Advisor to a potential 2028 Democratic presidential contender Politico said “At a time when people are looking for vision and leadership… and want to see leaders rise to the threat facing the country, it is crazy that she chose to write a gossip book that prioritizes the triviality of her policies.”

The advisor added: “It is embarrassing for her, and for all Democrats, considering that she was the leader of the party less than a year ago.”

Former CNN journalist Chris Cillizza also chimed in, writing on his Substack site, “Harris’s recent media tour to promote her memoir — ‘107 Days’ — has reminded me of something I think I’ve known for a long time: She’s simply not a very good politician. And she hasn’t gotten much better over the decades she’s been in the business.”

In a post on X, Cillizza pointed this out Harris returns to the public stage She reminded him that she was “not good on her feet,” and added, “She speaks with powers of words.”

Criticism also came from Democratic strategist Gary South, Who said the hill The timing of Harris’ memoir was less than ideal.

Referring to the tone of the book, South said the excerpts suggest “she went out with arms blazing and guns blazing, blaming everyone but herself for her loss.”

He continued: “It’s a negative and strangely inappropriate book for someone who reportedly believes she can run again in 2028.”
