New York Rangers Captain JT Miller praised the goalkeeper Jonathan Quick For his performance in the 1-0 loss to the Washington Capitals on Sunday.
Quick made his first start of the season with the Rangers. Despite the loss, the 39-year-old goaltender made impressive saves, finishing the night with 20 saves and a save percentage of .952.
“Yes, he played great,” Miller said after the match. “When we had some attacks, he made some great saves, and he always kept us in the game.”
However, Quick was less satisfied with his performance and felt unable to make the decisive stop needed to achieve victory:
“Our group gave a great effort all over the ice. Obviously they got some pretty dangerous weapons. We did a good enough job of keeping them fairly calm. Obviously they were able to get the weapon out there, so you move on,” Quick said.
He added:
“Unfortunately, I didn’t get the two points, but it’s all about two points.” It was a good hockey game, wasn’t it? “He definitely made some great saves to maintain the lead, and unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a response.”
Anthony Beauvillier scored the Capitals’ only goal in a 1-0 win over the Rangers. The goal came at 13:47 of the second period after the Cubs forward redirected a shot from Alex Ovechkin to beat Jonathan Quick for a tip-in.
Rangers HC were impressed with the team’s performance despite losing to the matches
New York Rangers coach Mike Sullivan was impressed with his team’s performance despite the shutout loss to the Capitals. If they keep up the same level of performance, the Blueshirts will, Sullivan said Secure more wins than they lose.
“I thought the team played very well, and that’s what I told the players after the game,” Sullivan said after the game. “For our coaching staff, we are very concerned with how we play, how we win and how we lose. Sometimes, you can’t control whether the ball goes into the net or not.”
The New York Rangers host the Edmonton Oilers at MSG next Tuesday. The disc drops at 7 PM ET.
