Jordan prohibits the Muslim Brotherhood after the detention due to the attack plots

The government of Jordan banned the Muslim Brotherhood a week after that the members of the Islamic Group had been arrested on suspicion of planning missile attacks and drones.

Interior Minister Mazen Al -Faraaya told a press conference that all the offices of the Muslim Brotherhood will be closed and that their assets are confiscated, and that any activities will be considered illegal.

There was no immediate response from the Muslim Brotherhood, which denied any ties to the alleged attacks of the attack.

It is not clear how the ban will affect the arm of the political group, the Islamic Action Front, the largest opposition group in Parliament. But its headquarters was raided by the police after Varaya was announced.

IAF Secretary -General Will Saqa insisted that he was an independent political party, explaining that “he has nothing to do with any other organizational body.”

“We always declare that we are committed to order, law, and the provisions of the constitution,” he said.

In 2020, the Supreme Court in Jordan ruled that the Brotherhood had been “dissolved” because it had not settled its legal status.

However, the group continued its political and other activities, and IAF participated in the parliamentary elections last year, and won 31 out of 138 seats.

Last week, the Ministry of General Intelligence in Jordan said it had arrested 16 people suspected of planning attacks aimed at “targeting national security, sowing chaos and sabotage.”

Varaya claimed during the press conference on Wednesday that members of the Muslim Brotherhood “are working in shadows and engaging in activities that may undermine stability and security.”

The authorities have found “explosives and weapons transferred between Jordanian cities and their storage in residential areas”, in addition to facilities for secret missile manufacturing and training and employment.

He also said that members of the Muslim Brotherhood tried to remove and destroy the documents from their headquarters “in an attempt to hide their activities and suspicious affiliations.”

The group denied that any participation in the alleged attack or knowledge plot and confirmed that it was “committed to its peaceful approach.”

The Muslim Brotherhood has been established in Egypt nearly 100 years ago and has local branches all over the world. One of its goals is the establishment of a state governed by Islamic law or Sharia.

It is prohibited in Egypt and many Arab countries, whose governments see a threat.
