Jasprit Bumrah sends Khari Pierre’s stump into the wheel in the Delhi Test

Jasprit Bumrah once again proved why he is one of the most lethal bowlers in world cricket, as the Indian fast bowler struck early in the post-lunch session to break a stubborn West Indies ninth-wicket partnership between Khari Pierre and Anderson Philippe in the ongoing second Test in Delhi.

After West Indies resisted India’s morning attack with a valiant 42-run stand, Jasprit Bumrah wasted no time in sending Khari Bair back to the pavilion straight after the lunch break. Pierre batted hard and hurt India’s bowlers with solid defense and some boundaries.

Indian captain Shubman Gill handed the ball to Jasprit Bumrah to start the post-lunch session, and the pacer did not disappoint the team. After Pierre hit a boundary, Jasprit Bumrah cleanly bowled the West Indies bowler for 23 runs off 46 balls off Arun Jaitley’s pitch.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled a perfect delivery around the off stump that gained sharply late reverse swing, hit the bat and hit the off stump. This breakthrough ended the 42-run resistance by the pacers and gave India the perfect opportunity to force the follow-on.

West Indies show grit in Delhi Test

Meanwhile, the West Indies side showed notable resistance on day three of the ongoing second Test against India in Delhi. For the first time in the last 16 overs, they forced the opposition to take the second new ball, showing their determination to fight back against the Indian bowlers.

Anderson Phillip has been the standout for the visitors, facing 87 balls in this innings so far, the most by West Indies in the series. Overall, West Indies batted out for 75 runs in this innings, the longest they have spent at the crease in the last 16 Test innings.

Philip became a major headache for the touring side as the hosts appealed and reviewed against the Trinidadian fast bowler, but nothing worked. But Jayden Seals couldn’t hold down the fort from the over, and they were bowled out for 248 runs.

Kuldeep Yadav’s five-wicket haul leads India to force the follow-on against West Indies

Philip ended up unbeaten on 24 off 93 balls. Kuldeep Yadav took a brilliant five-wicket haul when he trapped Jayden Seales lbw for 13. The left-arm wrist-spinner beat the Seales defense with a clever googly hit that hit the pads just next to the stumps.

Sills opted to review, but replays confirmed that the ball had hit the wicket. Later, India decided to impose this follow-up. There are 49 overs remaining in the third day’s match, so it will be interesting to see if West Indies can take the match to the fourth day against India.

Notably, the last time an Indian captain forced the follow-on with a lead of less than 300 runs was in 2015. Virat Kohli did it against Bangladesh in Fathallah, where an entire day’s match was stopped due to rain.
