Jasprit Bumrah put an end to rumors about his fitness, as the Indian pacer categorically denied reports that he has been advised bed rest due to swelling in his back. The 31-year-old fast bowler dismissed the allegations with good humour, terming them baseless and coming from unreliable sources.

With the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy looming on the horizon, Bumrah’s participation remains in serious doubt after he suffered a back spasm during the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. While the BCCI remained mum on Bumrah’s availability, there was a lot of speculation about his injury.

The Times of India quoted a source as saying: “It is possible that Bumrah will go to the Center of Excellence next week, but at the moment there is no specific date yet. He was advised to rest on bed at home to help the muscles recover and reduce swelling. Once this is completed, the future course of action will be confirmed.

‘Fake news made me laugh’: Jasprit Bumrah denies reports of bed rest

After the news spread like wildfire, Jasprit Bumrah had to take to his social media account to debunk the rumours. He mocked “fake news” and described the source as “unreliable.” The Indian contestant denied the report while tagging the content creator on X, which was later deleted following the Indian star’s reaction.

“I know fake news is easy to spread, but this made me laugh,” Bumrah posted on X. “Sources are unreliable,” with some laughing emojis.

Meanwhile, the Indian pacer was in excellent form last year across the format before suffering a back spasm on the tour of Australia, where he took 32 wickets in nine innings and won the Player of the Series award.

Bumrah is currently the highest-ranked player in the ICC Test rankings and was also awarded the ICC Player of the Month for December 2024 for his impressive performance in the recent Test series against Australia.

BCCI postpones 2025 ICC Champions Trophy squad announcement due to fitness issues of Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav

He took 22 wickets in three Tests at an average of 14.22 last month in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Bumrah was also recently nominated for two top awards at the 2024 ICC Awards – the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year Award and the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Award for the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year for his amazing bowling display in 2024.

Notably, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to announce the next squad for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy before the final deadline, and the reason behind this delay is the uncertainty over the fitness of Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav.

The Men in Blue will begin their 2025 Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, UAE.
