Japanese Prime Minister Shigro Ishiba resigns

Japanese Prime Minister Shigro Ishiba announced that he was stepped down less than a year in this role, after two main losses of the elections.

The move comes one day before its liberal democratic party (LDP) will vote whether the internal driving that could have been forced to go out.

The Liberal Democratic Party ruled Japan nearly seven decades ago, but during the era of Ishiba, it lost its majority in the lower home for the first time in 15 years and then lost its majority in the House of Representatives in July.

Japan, the fourth largest economy in the world and a major ally of the United States, is facing a period of political uncertainty with high tensions with China and regional insecurity.

“Now, after reaching a conclusion in the negotiations related to the US tariff measures, I think this is exactly the right time,” Ishiba said, referring to a deal signed last week to alleviate the customs tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump on Japanese cars and other exports.

Until Sunday, he resisted calls to resign, saying that his responsibility was to settle the conflict with Washington before step down.

“I firmly believed that negotiations related to American tariff measures, which can be described as a national crisis, should reach a conclusion under the responsibility of our administration,” he said.

The 68 -year -old said he will continue his responsibilities for the “people” until a new prime minister was chosen.

Ishiba, who took office in October 2024, struggled to address the increasing prices, to inspire confidence as the country faced economic winds, the cost of living and the refugee policy with the United States.

Inflation, especially the double rice prices last year, was political harmful.

Public support was slipped after a series of differences, including criticism of his decision to appoint only two women in the cabinet and expand expensive gifts for party members.
