JAL says it suspended ticket sales for all services on Thursday following the incident.

Japan Airlines (JAL) has reported a cyberattack, causing some flight delays.

JAL said on Thursday that the airline experienced “malfunctions in communication systems with external systems” shortly before 7:30 a.m. local time (23:30 GMT, Wednesday).

JAL has temporarily isolated the router that was causing the disruption shortly before 9 a.m. and is currently “checking the system recovery status,” the Tokyo-based airline said.

“We have determined the scope of the impact and are currently verifying the recovery status of the system,” JAL said.

The airline added that there were delays on both domestic and international flights, and that it had suspended ticket sales for all services scheduled for Thursday.

Japanese Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) reported that more than a dozen flights were delayed at several Japanese airports, but no large number of flights were cancelled.

All Nippon Airways, JAL’s main competitor, said it had not been affected by any cyber incidents and services were operating as usual.

American Airlines briefly suspended all flights on Christmas Eve after experiencing a technical glitch involving its network equipment.
