James Komei pushed his innocence of the charges of lying to Congress and his obstruction, in the first appearance before the court to the former FBI director who supervised an investigation into alleged links between Donald Trump and Russia.

On Wednesday, Michael Nakhmanov, the judge who heads the case in Virginia, set a date for trial on January 5.

The issue of the Ministry of Justice against Komei is a major escalation of Trump’s attack on his political enemies, which raises concerns among the president’s critics that he uses the Ministry of Justice as a weapon for revenge.

The Ministry also launched investigations targeting Lisa Cook, a senior federal reserve official, Lentia James, the New York Prosecutor who last year filed a civil fraud case against Trump. The Ministry of Justice rejects the allegations that it is used to punish Trump’s enemies.

These accusations came after the resignation of the American Prosecutor of the Eastern Region from Virginia, who is responsible for the investigation against Kumi – and days after Trump Lindsey Halligan chose his former personal lawyer, to replace him.

This came in the wake of a post on social media, in which Trump urged the public prosecutor Bam Bondi last month to trial Kumi and James.

On Tuesday, Bondi refused to comment on the Komei case while appearing in front of a committee in Congress, but he said that “he was charged … (before) one of the most liberal jury bodies in the country.”

Last month, Trump appeared that more of his political opponents can be tried, warning that although there is no list of the names of the people who will be targeted, “there will be others.”

Trump turned his attention on Tuesday to Jack Smith, the former special adviser who supervised the federal criminal cases that targeted the President during the Biden administration, including his efforts to cancel the 2020 presidential elections.

The American Republican Senator Chuck Grassley shared a memorandum this week showing that federal investigators obtained the records of nine Republican legislators while investigating Trump’s alleged intervention in the 2020 elections.

“Jack Smith, the dysfunction and his hand, have been arrested on the biscuit jar. It is a real bag !!!” Trump wrote on social media.

FBI director Cash Patel earlier that day books On X it “started a continuous investigation” and expelled the employees in relation to “unfounded monitoring” for Republican legislators.

Smith representatives did not immediately respond to the comment.

Kumi announced his innocence in a video posted on social media. He said: “My family and I have known for years that standing in the face of Donald Trump has a price. But we cannot imagine ourselves in any other way.”

These allegations stem from the Komei certificate before the Senate Judicial Committee in 2020, when Republican Ted Cruz interrogated him whether any person at the FBI was allowed to leak information to the press.

Kumi denied that he gave this mandate. His statement was opposed with a separate certificate made by former FBI deputy director Andrew Maccabi.

If convicted, Komei faces a prison sentence for up to five years, although the rulings related to federal crimes are often less than the maximum.

Trump Kumi was dismissed from his position as head of the Federal Investigation Office in 2017 while he was supervising an investigation into the links between the presidential campaign of the Republican Party and Russia. Men have ever disputed since then.
